FAQs

How do I use this program?

Kingdoms of Creation is a narrative approach to biology. I encourage you to read the chapters aloud to your children as a group, making this program great for families with a range of ages. It is designed to be used in a four-year cycle (there will hopefully be forthcoming earth science, chemistry, and physics programs) over the course of grades K-8. For younger students in grades K-4, you will read Part 1 of each chapter. This will give the students a good introduction to the material that they can build on when they come back to it again. For grades 5-8, you will read Parts 1 and 2. (Part 2 of each chapter builds on the narrative of Part 1, so you won’t want to skip it. Don’t worry, each part is only about as long as a picture book.)

Is this a complete curriculum?

Kingdoms of Creation is a complete biology program for K-8. I made this program so that it encompasses all aspects of biology that I believe the average person needs, so preparing the student for adulthood. As with all education, some things must be left out, as the infinite Creator has made an infinite amount of knowledge.

Is this a Christian resource?

As a Roman Catholic, I believe in the trinitarian God who created the universe and in Jesus Christ who died for our sins so that we could have eternal life (among other things). This resource is written from that perspective and everything found here is compatible with that perspective as far as I know (if you have specific concerns, please let me know!). This is not a specifically Christian resource, in that anyone who believes in a creator of the universe who continues to guide creation today would likely not find anything objectionable.

Why do you use the term ‘Creator’?

While I believe in the trinitarian God, I wanted to make this resource available to those who believe in a creator who continues to engage with creation (but not necessarily the Lord God). I encourage you, nay I insist, that you replace this term with whatever term makes you comfortable (such as God, the Creator God, or what have you) – I do this when I am reading to my own children.

Do you teach Creationism/Evolution?

All materials are taught from the perspective that there is a creator of the universe who continues to guide creation today. I avoid the topic of macro-evolution completely in this course, but micro-evolution is covered. I do not cover the debate of creationism vs. evolution, although I do note where you could cover this topic with older children. Younger children (typically until at least age 11) do not have the capacity for critical thinking, so it is not appropriate to present debates of any kind to them as they cannot assess the validity of the arguments. For this reason, I chose not to go into this debate, especially as there are a number of excellent resources available.

Why is this free? Will it stay free?

I made Kingdoms of Creation to fill a need that my family had, and I hope that it does the same for yours. I know how expensive homeschooling can be, and I hope that this can be an option that helps to alleviate that burden. The main chapters will continue to be free and available to anyone, anywhere, for any free use (including a co-op) as long as this website is here. You are welcome to print it out to save and to share (just please let people know where you got it). We may in the future have paid products (print editions, premium linked content, etc.) or affiliate links for suggested resources.

When will this program be done?

I am continuing to work on this program, but with life changes in our family, it has been slow going. After the Biology program is complete, I am planning on creating corresponding Earth Science, Chemistry, and Physics programs over the next several years. Join the mailing list for updates!
